I thought I would share Fay Ripley's lovely kitchen with you, Fay starred in the successful TV series Cold Feet during the late 90's and early noughties, the series was huge in the UK and also popular in Australia. Fay often plays charismatic, kooky characters - evidently this creative flair has flowed onto the design and decoration of her home....
I love the pink arm chair and ottoman, the orange cushion works well, I've also been trying to zoom in on the shelves, I'm liking the blue glass bowl and the matching three jugs, great eclectic mix of old and new. Here's what Fay had to say ....
"I can potter around in here for hours - re-arranging flowers, admiring my own cakes and plumping cushions. I feel unhinged when my home isn't how I think it should be. I've always been a home bird; in my 20s I wanted to be middle-aged and cook grown-up food to impress my friends. We had risotto competitions. It was tragic."
Hummm, a girl after my own heart... cheesy I know!

We Like.... Bright and Cheerful

I think it's because the weather has been a bit lack luster in the last few days but I'm craving bright colours to cheer up the apartment. Here are a few of my pick's from browsing around the net....

Pink scarf from seed Femme, Blue ballerina flats from Sambag, laundry bag from Mozi, side plate also from Mozi, colour ful bowls from Cath Kidson.

Six of the Best .... Cushions

When I first arrived in Australia from the UK with my future husband our purse strings were rather tight - we inherited many, MANY items from family and friends by means of charity that were useful and also not so useful (code for not wanted)! A few of those pieces we still have including a chair similar to the one below I originally covered the out dated seat cushions with a chocolate brown fabric (rather in Vogue 5+ years ago)...

...now these covers are looking a tad sorry for themselves and I'm on the look out for a new fabric, while looking I came across No Chintz a divine online fabric store... I'm yet to find the right fabric - but I will keep you posted. In the meantime I have added another Six of the Best - Cushions (picked from Etsy.com)...
  1. Rose Pink and Gold Pillow covers $32.00 by PillowMio
  2. Gingham Owl Pillow - Hoot, Hoot $27.00 by VforViolet

  4. Dala Spot Cushion $39.00 by Olofsdaughters
  5. a monogrammed cushion $29.00 by Kaileyhawthorn

We Like.... Pilu Kiosk @ Freshwater Beach

Ok so not all of you are able to pop over to Oz and enjoy the delicious delights available at the new Pilu Kiosk - but I couldn't resist putting up this picture - I love the cups (and the coffee) the image in the background is a scrummy 'nutella pastry'.... If you are in Sydney and want to know where this is click on the link below.

Six of the Best... Candles

Each week Mollie and Finn will be picking their Six of the Best (a homage to the Guardian's six of the best).... This week we're starting with Candles, all picked from Etsy.com.

I find there's nothing more relaxing after a hard days work or when the kids are tucked up in bed than taking a long dip in the tub with only a candle or two, three - four lighting the bathroom.... even better if the candle is scented and a glass of vino to sip!

We Like.... Murchison-Hume Cleaning Products

Yes I know CLEANING PRODUCTS! But these are different... I came over all Gwyneth Paltrow and wanted to find cleaning products that weren't toxic to the environment or my young son especially when he started crawling and poking his fingers into nooks and crannies around our apartment. I stumbled across Murchison-Hume (Sydney) they've developed cleaning products that are quote "Earth, food, child and Pet safe" the added bonus is that they smell amazing.

My favourite being the "Counter Intelligence" food Safe Surface Spray - in
Juniper berry. I think the products are only available in Australia or online but I have linked to the website Murchison-Hume so you can always email them to see if shipping overseas is on their radar.

In the Kitchen - Recipe

Warm Salad of roasted pumpkin, apples and rocket

I spotted this recipe in this weeks SMH Good food supplement, and rushed to the shops on my way home from work to get together all the ingredients.... It was so yummy and simple to make I thought I would share it with you all.

  • 500g Butternut pumpkin peeled, seeded and sliced 1/2 thick
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, plus extra
  • 3 tsp balsamic vinegar, plus extra
  • 2 medium pink lady apples, cored and cut into wedges
  • 80g walnut halves
  • 150g baby beans top and tailed
  • 2 cups of wild rocket
  • 2 cups of watercress sprigs
  • 100g marinated feta
"Preheat oven to 210c. Combine the pumpkin, olive oil and vinegar in a oven proof dish and roast for 15 min's. Add the apples and roast for a further 15 mins then add the walnuts and roast for another five minutes or until pumpkin is tender. Remove and set aside for five minutes. Meanwhile, blanch beans in lightly salted boiling water then refresh in iced water and drain. Combine rocket and watercress in a large bowl, add roasted pumpkin mixture and beans, season to taste and toss gently. Divide salad among four bowls, crumble over feta and drizzle with a little extra olive oil and balsamic." Serve straight away....

The Mitfords: Letters Between Six Sisters, Charlotte Mosely's collection of letters provides a great insight into the life and times of the famous Mitford Girls. As a Times Pick of the week the review sums up the book eloquently - ' "The Mitfords" is a thrilling and moving, funny and serious book. Here is a story of a family, of loyalty, love, humour, tragedy and at times, chilling deception, a tale that sometimes amuses and horrifies, but always fascinates!with the diminishing use of the letter as a means of communication, one wonders if there will ever again be such a luminous correspondence.' I loved this book finding it both fascinating and sad....
